Vid Punken Vol 2 - Svensk Punk Compilation CD
This
is another awesome comp of mostly traditional Swedish punk, aka
trallpunk. Trallpunk is a style of punk special to Sweden and Sweden
only. Trall comes from the phrase tralala, hence most of the music
is melodic, but the tunes are derived from Swedish folk music and
incorporated into the punk/hardcore genre. This comp was also created
in a very unique and fun way. The label is called KFLP, which is
actually a collaboration of a bunch of Swedish labels and Vinehell.
Each label selected a band and we all voted on the title and art.
I think it turned out great! Amazing!
bands:
M.I.D., Nan Havla Punk, Stefan Lunblad and Hyrda
Knektar, Varnagel, Frost, Last Caress, Snorting Maradonas, Nasblod,
Sista Skriket, Jolly Six, Rascar Capac, Total Egon, = Support, Alarmrock,

Stajnas
Lobos/Vacant Churches - split 7" VH019
I think this is one of my favorite releases to date.
Two killer female fronted punk bands belt out some brand new tunes.
Vacant Churches from Campbell Califonia have more of a deathrock/gothic
feel with the use of keyboards and Melody's haunting vocals.
Stajnas Lobos from Sweden have a bit more 77 punk in the guitars
but have a similar flavor with duel female vocals and a stomping
punk beat.
For fans of X, Siouxsie, The Damned, Avengers, etc.... Truely amazing!
This could have easily been released in 82.
Both bands compliment each other well, making for a great split.
Well worth the price of admission.

Vacant
Churches - As I Fall From Grace MCD VH022
Debut release by these San Jose/Campbell veterans.
Blasting out 6 tracks of old school punk, in the vein of Siouxsie,
45 Grave or maybe the Avengers. An In your face surge of punk, infused
with keyboards and passionate female vocals. Nostalgic but full
of new energy bringing back feelings of the angst, and animosity
of the day to day tread mill. ahhh..... |

let this mutha play. |

Ribzy
- 81-85 Recordings CD VH014
Ribzy
was one of the first punk/hardcore bands to emerge from the San
Jose area. They appeared on "Not So Quiet On The Western Front"
comp LP, and a few other comps. but that was about it even though
they recorded enough songs for a couple albums. This CD is a collection
of those recordings from 81 - 85, as well as a couple new songs
recorded in 2003 for the San Jose Punk Reunion show.

Apeface/Zero
Hour - split 12" repress VH012
This
was released in the mid nineties to the tune of about 600 copies.
I recently acquired the remaining covers and will repress them in
batches of 300 till they're gone. If you remember these bands and
never got a copy, well.... this is your chance. For those of you
who don't, I'll give you a brief description.
Apeface was one of the original crust type hardcore
punk bands in San Jose. They incorporate classic punk riffs with
scratchy glass gargling vocals not unlike Fingerprint. The music
is generally melodic, mid tempo and catchy.
Zero Hour from the East Bay is more of a anarcho
peace punk type band with screaming female vocals. Whisper the singer
is very passionate and has deep lyrics dealing with the state of
our humanity. She's backed by a solid wall of dark melodic hardcore
featuring Markley from Econochrist on drums.

Varnagel
- Det Som Var CD VH009 collection of 3 demos
Varnagel is a trallpunk band from Sweden. Trallpunk
is a style of punk that comes from Sweden and Sweden only. Yeah,
they have their Dis-core(Scandi-core),Garage Rock, Power Pop, Punk,
whatever, but the one thing they can call their own is trallpunk.
People not keen on foreign bands or bands that don’t sing
in English, say it sounds like Bad Religion, but it’s much
more than that. The vocal lines and guitar melodies have a distinct
Swedish folk sound, that comes from Swedish bands like Asta Kask,
Strebers, Charta 77, DLK, Raserbajs, Radiaktiva Rakor etc….
This Cd is a collection of there first 3 demo tapes |

The
Sainte Catherines/Whiskey Sunday split 7" VH008
co-released with Yo Yo Records in Germany
The
Sainte Catherines are an amazing band and very hard to put in one
category. On this one they do a hardcore/crust song, a Jawbreaker
type emo song, and a cover of Westward Bound by Whiskey Sunday.
Whiskey Sunday match it with a catchy folk punk song, and two rock
screamo type songs. This is a great split by two great bands. |

For Life - Sharks and Roaches CD VH007 2004 12 songs
This is AFL’s latest release, and by public
opinion their best. Blazing guitar chords, gruff melodic vocals,
and guitar melodies woven throughout. Sharks and Roaches displays
how to perfectly blend melodic and hardcore punk rock. (Zero Mag)
SHARKS AND ROACHES screams out with passion from the opening guitar
riffs of "Ashes"(Skratch)

The
Flames - s/t 7" 2 songs VH005 2003 almost
sold out
The Flames we’re originally
conceived as a joke band about fire. After the novelty of burning
shit up wore off and Great White killing people, the Flames began
concentrating on the music and released their first 7”. Old
school punk. Snotty vocals and metalish guitars. Members of P.T.L.
and K.P.F. and No Name from Live 105 on drums

Angry
For Life - Shakin' In My Boots 7" 4 songs VH004
2003
This is AFL’s debut vinyl release. This one
has some great songs. From Swedish cowboys, to compost piles of
bodies. A lot of the reviews say post Mike Ness or Bad Religion,
but I just can’t hear it. Angry For Life plays melodic punk
with a depressed tone; miserable and sweet all at once (HA) Angry
For Life is a dark, melodic hardcore band from San Jose that includes
three ex members of Krupted Peasant Farmerz (Punk Planet) |
 |
Angry
For Life - s/t MCD 8 songs VH003 2002After

and Dave Fraser got together with Michelle Budziak(Red ..9) and

Dark downtrodden melodic punk, influence by Upright Citizens, Asta
Kask, Social Distortion, Social Unrest, Strebers, etc… Angry
For Life play Reagan era hardcore with a slight melody and poppy
edge (Heartattack)
